I was feeling like some gelato a few weeks ago, so I went to the gelaterie near my house, waited in line, and decided on the raspberry and limoncello flavors they had. I sat down with my book and tried a big spoonful of the raspberry and immediately noticed it was kinda...gross, it was almost bitter and just bad. Raspberry gelato is my absolute favorite ice cream ever and I'd been looking forward to it all day, so I wasa little bummed out, but it's just ice cream so it's not that big of a deal. After a few bites of the raspberry flavor, I decided that I couldn't eat any more, so I just finished off the limoncello instead. As I went to throw my cup away, I overheard the girl working the counter tell another customer that the raspberry flavor was sugar free, and sweetened with Splenda. No one had mentioned this to me when I ordered, but it sure explained the way the ice cream tasted. I peeked into the freezer case to see if the gelato was labeled as sugar-free, thinking it had probably been my mistake, and it was marked as being regular raspberry gelato. I mentioned to the girl at the counter that they should change the label to let customers know that they are ordering an artificially sweetened food because some people, like me, are intolerant of aftifcial sweetners (Splenda gives me headaches everytime I ingest it), and she said "Well, YOU should have asked. What do you want me to do about it now?" and rolled her eyes.

Okay. I was 100% polite to her and I wasn't angry or upset at all, so why the attitude? She was probably 16 years old or so working her first summer job, but that's no excuse. I was working FULL TIME in customer service at the age of 16 and I've never, ever been rude to a customer like that. Additionally, I really don't think I should have to ask whether or not something is sugar free or not, since I should be able to tell by the label. I almost applied at this particular gelaterie when it was first opening, and now I'm really glad I didnt..I hate working with people who think it's okay to give shitty service.
