So I head into the store and back to the technology section where the glass cases with the memory are. Now, no one was in the section for some reason - which I thought was kinda odd - I used to work at an Office Depot, and we had people assigned to every damn section of the store - so where the heck was their technology associates? Weird. So I waited patiently and looked around to see if I could find anyone for about five minutes or so, and then decided to go up to the front and ask the person at the customer service desk if she could page someone to the locked cases for me, asked politely even - I mean hell, the regular person might be on break or something, I just want someone to unlock the silly case - she gave me an odd, furtive, 'oh god I don't want to deal with PEOPLE today' look when I asked her to page someone, and then peered around the front of the store, pointed to a guy that was WITH ANOTHER CUSTOMER and said 'Oh just go wait there and ask him when he's done'. I said okay, meanwhile wondering why she couldn't pick up the phone and page someone - I mean, I thought that's what you're SUPPOSED to do - and went to wait for the guy to get done, figuring that maybe he was the technology guy and he'd just gotten stuck up front for some reason. When he finished up, he turned to me and asked what I needed, I said I needed help getting something out of the glass case, and then he says:
"Oh I'll page someone back there, just go wait."
¬.¬
Now why couldn't the silly little twat at the service desk do this? I mean, why'd I have to wait another five minutes or so for a man to get done with a customer, only to be told he's going to do the same damned thing I asked the service desk person to do for me?
So I go BACK to the locked cases, and stand around and wait.
For fifteen minutes.
No pages were made over the phone.
No one showed up.
I finally decided they didn't need the rather sizeable amount of cash I was perfectly willing to give them for some goddamned computer memory, and walked out of the store. I have NEVER had that kind of service there before. Fuckers. And it wasn't like they were busy - there was ONE person up front being checked out when I left, and THREE people on registers. I mean, c'mon people - I just want to give you my money and take home shiny things for my computer! That's all!
Luckily, I don't usually have this kind of problem when I go there - most of the time everyone's pretty helpful. I guess it was just a 'everyone suddenly lost thirty IQ points' kind of day.
