So if anyone is bored, read of my woes :p I cut them up just in case.
I am trying to shorten this one as much as possible. I work for a university department. We (obviously) rely on other departments (Like the registrars, graduate studies, resources) as does every department on campus. We needed some things lamenated (about 60 sheets of a rubric). They gave us the lamenated sheets in basically a ball of the plastic crap. They didnt even nicely fold it. They state that they do not cut lamenations. So I cart the huge ball of lamenated papers to my office. They tell me that they WERE supposed to be cut. Great. So my supervisor calls the Resources office and asks if they can cut them. We are told they can and to bring them right back. Annoying, but ok. So we fold them nicely and I cart them back.
I then walk into the office and say I am dropping this off to be cut from the English department. The girl at the computer glares, says we dont cut things and immediately turns back to the computer. I tell her to please call my supervisor and that she would tell them the name of who said that they did cut things. She doesnt even look at me and just says no. ?!?! Wtf? She wont even call to try to clarify the mixup? I repeat my request asking her to please call and we could figure out what happened (I figured a misunderstanding happened). She says no again and asks if I want scissors to start cutting them myself. Then a woman walks out and says "Your boss told you that someone here said that we cut things?" and bursts into laughter like its the most funny thing in the world. I say yes and repeat my request again for them to CALL my boss. They continue to openly mock the idea to my face, with laughter. Then one of them says "I dont think anyone actually told you guys that" and rolls her eyes. Then they continue to mock. I am so shocked I dont know what to do, so I repeat one last time to please call my boss and that she would not lie about that. Finally, the woman sighs loudly and says that we will cut them JUST this time but let the department know that they dont cut, etc... (condescending lecturing tone)
As I leave, I here them whispering and laughing more.
I promptly begin crying as the door shuts because I cannot even remember a time when I have been treated with such disrespect, openly mocked and called a liar to my face. I didnt lash out because I know I work for a university and that I represent my department and university. I would NEVER EVER act as unprofessional as they did. Ever. I go back to my boss and she gives me the name of who she spoke to...the boss of the department who tells us that they DO cut things and he has no idea why anyone would say otherwise.
I went through a drivethru today and when I went to the window, instead of taking my money I watched two girls (the window was open) argue about how to raise their kids. For like, 5 minutes. It was kind of funny more than annoying-they were really getting into it! Finally one noticed me and was like "OH SHIT!!! The Drivethru!!!" and took my money-I had a huge line behind me too. I guess they forgot themselves :p
How difficult is it to pay the minimum amount of attention to a table? We had our waiter disappear after he gave us our food-we had to ask random waitresses for refills twice and finally had to flag down a manager just to get our bill. And we saw him many times...but he just walked past us. Either someone else was supposed to take us or he decided we werent worth it. We ended up tipping the waitresses who took time from their own tables to give us refills-you guys rock!!!!
My brother is a waiter. We went to his restaurant, but didnt get his section. He told us that the waitress was a single mother and slipped us a 5-he said to give it to her in addition to whatever we would tip. And this is a buffet so getting 10+ dollars for two people at a buffet is fairly decent in my mind. My brother knows I drink like a freak, so he put a pitcher on our table and told the waitress that I drink a lot, dont worry about it, and that I would take good care of her (meaning give her a huge tip anyways). She says ok and seems nice about it. (Oh and before anyone comes shrieking in to yell about how awful we are, its a VERY VERY casual buffet and if asked, one can get their own pitcher on a table-it wasnt just me getting special favors due to him being my brother)
So we notice the waitress standing a little back from our table and thinking she is just weird, paid no notice. I got up to get more food and right when I did she walked over, grabbed the pitcher, rolled her eyes and walked away without a word.
**eyebrow** Very passive aggressive. Whats more is that at the moment I had an empty glass (which she should have seen) and she left it even when she took the pitcher. Then she disappeared. Once again...good god, all I want is the occasional refill!!! And at a buffet thats pretty much your entire job! We had to beg other waiters to please give us a refill as they walked by with pitchers.(Once again, thank you for taking care of the incompetence of your coworkers)
I ended up leaving her the 5 alone even though I would have left less-I was afraid that it might cause work problems for my brother if I only left a few dollars (and he is weird about his money).
As I leave, several of the waitstaff says hi (because they know my bro) and they inform me that they were sorry we got that waitress and that she is crazy and a drug addict. They say she basically goes and smokes while she has tables as well as zones out for long periods of times. They said she makes no money and everyone knows she will fail the drug test, but the management is too chicken to fire her because she does have a kid and its the holidays. They hate her because they often have to pick up the slack for the angry customers she causes.
So I basically just paid a fairly nice tip (5 seems good to me on a cheap as hell buffet) to a drug addict who zones out and smokes instead of doing work. Fantastic!
(I am sympathetic to her situation-especially for her child, but Im blowing off steam and I have a feeling the money wont go to the kid or rent)
