Cingular and Why I Hate Them

My struggles with Cingular could fill up an epic novel, but I'll try and keep it as short and to the point as possible.

Okay, I'll lay this out in a timeline so you can get a general idea of what's been happening before I start my rant.

June 2005: I call around and do some research on who would have the best cel phone service where I go to college. The companies I call are Cingular, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint. I sign up with Cingular and get a black RAZR from Best Buy. Didn't think too much about it at the time, but now I realize that I might have wanted to get the phone from Cingular themselves.. but Best Buy isn't the problem here.

August 2005: I move to Manhattan, KS for school. I then discover that my service is AWFUL - I rarely have more than 2 signal bars, my calls are awful and static-filled, and more than half the time they drop before I'm done talking. My voicemail doesn't work right, and I'm not happy with my service at all.

September 2005: I start making phone calls. When I first called Cingular back in June, I was told my service would be excellent. At this point, I'm not really pissed, just midly irritated that my service isn't up to Cingular's promise. They sent some remote fixes and such to my phone, yada yada.

October 2005: All the problems are still occuring. In fact, they're getting worse. By now I'm so furious at the run around I've been getting that I call them again and say "Okay, I'm done. I want you to let me out of my contract with no penalties." Eventually after reviewing my account information, the guy I'm talking to agrees that I should be let out and agrees to do so IF I return my RAZR to Cingular. Fine. No problems there.

October 31, 2005: I become an official customer of Sprint. I've had crystal clear calls, no voicemail issues, and everything works charmingly. I pay less, too.

November 1, 2005: I officially cancel my Cingular account. The rep I'm speaking with tells me it'll be fine if I just take my phone back to the main Cingular store in Lawrence, even though I got it at Best Buy. This is important.

Today: My mom takes the phone back along with my account number. I'm at work, and she calls me up from the Cingular store and tells me the guy there wants to talk to me. Okay, whatever. I talk to him, and am immediately put off by his rudeness. The conversation went something like this:

Guy: This is (name).
Me: This is Aladara. What can I do for you?
Guy: Uh, I don't really need to talk to you, actually. Your mom just came in and handed me the phone.
Me: (not believing that, as mom wouldn't just parade in and hand him the phone without saying anything) I was let out of my contract on the terms that I bring you my RAZR. I'm around 100 miles away, and there is no Cingular here.
Guy: Uhhhh.. well.. I'll have to do some research. I'm not seeing that anywhere on your account.
Me: I have the name of the rep who agreed to this. Would you like his name?
Guy: No, no.. here's your mom.

So at this point, both mom and I are pissed. Mom hangs up with me, then calls back a few minutes later to ask me where the recipt for the phone is. I tell her, and she tells me that now they won't take the phone without the recipt.. which is fine. I'm not quite sure I understand why they need it, but apparantly they're going to give me the money back for the phone. Can't argue with an extra 100 bucks! =D

So I go back into my office, somewhat pleased with myself. My phone rings again, and this time it doesn't go so well.

Mom: They're rude and nasty and I don't like them.
Me: I know. I don't like them either.
Mom: The guy I was talking to started talking down to me about you, telling me how teenagers shouldn't have cel phones.

Okay, now this is what really infuriates me. I've dealt with this rep in person before, and I knew who he was as soon as mom mentioned that he said he was in Manhattan all the time and had great service. This guy is a grade A asshole, and I'll be calling corporate later to complain about him. Anyway, on with the conversation...

Me: Did you tell him that I'm 22 and I've had more problems with Cingular in the last two months than most people have in a year?
Mom: Yes, and all he did was give me your phone and tell me to bring the recipt. Then he just walked off.
Me: *furious*
Mom: *furious*

So now my mom and I are both angry, and I'm going to have to call Cingular back because apparantly, this dipshit has told her that my account is "suspended but not cancelled", which means I'm still being charged for it. I just tried to log into my online account manager to find out if it's still active, and it says in big red letters STATUS: CANCELLED.

Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.

So, the customer service rep my mom dealt with was extremely rude and patronizing. The reps I dealt with on the phone were more or less clueless and harmless, but at least I finally got them to let me out of my contract. I'm not going to be able to go to that store in person again for another two weeks, so I'm going to have to call them once I'm out of the office and find out just exactly WHERE they get off insulting me behind my back to MY OWN MOTHER.

Sorry that wound up being so long. I didn't realize just how angry I am until now. @.@
