My husband and I went to applebees to eat. We had a server who *would not leave*. By this I mean the man stood by or sat at or table and talked. He took our orders, he refilled our drinks. He got us our food. Otherwise? He parked his ass at our table and talked. Talked about the area, talked about college, talked about work, talked about my husband's commute. Please believe me when I say I do not mean polite chit-chat for a minute or three while doing those things. I mean he stayed at our table and chatted with us for 10 minute blocks of time during the earlier part of the meal (Meal=visit, I guess).
He stopped when I screwed up the courage to, as nicely as possible respond to his "Anything else you need?" (While sitting beside me, in my booth, playing with the menu) with: "I'd actually like to have a little time to talk to my husband?" He got up and left. Someone else refilled us from that point, and brought our check. We paid out, left a decent (20%) tip and ran like hell.
Seriously though-- Is this something that's considered good? Because really, it was the most annoying, obnoxious, grating thing in the world. I'd honestly rather have been ignored.
