I think I might have posted this before, but a recent post reminded me of it.
So, sometime towards the end of I THINK 2003, Xenogears was released as a Playstation Greatest Hits title. For those of you who aren't into videogames, Xenogears first came out in the late 90s, went out of print, and has since been essentially impossible to find for less than $50, if you were lucky.
At this point my local EB Games had had a used copy of it, with no front cover (the back cover was moved to the front and there was nothing on the back), though I think it had the booklet, and was $50. Right. So. I see that it's been released as a Greatest Hits title, and since given the option I'd rather buy things in person than order - for the speed and all - I head down to EB Games on a mission.
Looking around for a bit, I unsurprisingly don't find much selection for Playstation games. A manager spies me, approaches, and asks if he can help me find anything. "Do you have any new Playstation games?" I query. He gestures to a nearby rack and says all their Playstation games are there, I look, and don't find my prey, so I ask him, "Hey, you can order games, right?" He says it depends on the game, so I say, "Can you order a copy of Xenogears?"
So he looks at me and.. he doesn't really laugh, he just gives me a sarcastic, "Ha ha. No." I reply, "Er.. think you could look that up?" He goes to the computer and replies that he knows he can't because someone had been in that morning looking for it, and lo and behold, it still isn't available. So I thank him for some reason, go home, and order it from Buy.com for $15 with free shipping.
Turns out the guy is an asshole to just about everyone who enters the store and the employees hate him, so I guess at least it isn't just me. I won't shop there anymore if he's in there.
