One my mom told me...

A little background information: my mother is legally blind. She has had this condition from birth, and has never been able to drive.

When my mom was in her early twenties, she went to buy something from a store using a personal cheque. It wasn't a large amount. The only photo ID she had was from the CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind). At the time, you couldn't get the province-issued ID cards that were not driver licenses. The clerk was insisting that she had to have a driver's license in order to use the cheque. She tried to explain, multiple times, that she can't have a driver's license as she can't drive. Still not good enough. They had to get the manager, who had no problem with my mom's CNIB card.
