I've been taking my car to the same garage for over two years now. They've always been awesome as far as service goes - honest and up front with me, and everyone is very nice. I trust them with my car.
Well, about a month ago there was a new mechanic I had never seen before. I was there for some pretty standard stuff he wasn't needed for and, after a few minutes, he came inside and started flirting with me. Extensively. It was harmless at first, but still enough to make me wary. He wouldn't leave me alone even when I asked him to and that was especially off-putting. It was a fast service, though, and I was able to get out of there. Unhappy with him, but my car was still great.
Of course, an unrelated issue came up the next weekend and I took my car back. (It wasn't something he could have done; the thought did pass through my mind.) The same mechanic was there. He recognized my car, passed it off to someone else, and followed me inside the waiting room (which was empty) to chat/flirt again. Thankfully he was needed outside so I didn't need to tell him to stop this time, but it make me very uncomfortable.
It was what just happened, though, that made me decide to post about all this.
It's been roughly three weeks. I had the money to get my brake pads replaced, so I went by again. This same guy was there. As soon as he knew I was there, he came inside and greeted me by my name. I never told him my name in the past. He has never cashed me out or checked me in, or done any of my paperwork. The only way he could know my name is if he looked me up in their computer or purposefully pulled my old records. As soon as that red flag went up, I shut down the conversation immediately and told him to keep everything about my car.
He did, to an extent, but he kept saying stuff like, "It's gonna cost this much but since I like you, I'll give you a discount." He tried to cover his butt by adding a "just kidding" in there, though I'm not sure how much I believe it.
And then? What should have taken about an hour took two hours - and this was after I was quoted a shorter time and my car was the only one in the garage. I'm not really sure what the deal was. One of the other guys out there, the one who checked me in and who was also working on my car, kept coming back and saying he had no idea what was taking so long.
I think I'm going to call tomorrow and ask for all of my personal information to be taken out of the computer. I'd like to speak with a manager, but I'm not sure what to say other than he makes me uncomfortable.
It's quite possible I'm overreacting, and I'm definitely willing to let it go. But right now this guy is making me so uncomfortable that I'm almost considering leaving this garage that has, up to this point, taken such good care of me and my car - something I've had really bad luck with in the past.
