In February I bought an HP slimline desktop computer at Fry's in Renton.
On Sept 2nd, the computer completely stopped connecting to the network or the internet, no matter what cable, what modem, what modem port. On 9/5 I took the computer into Fry's to get a diagnostic run on it. When I drop it off, they confirm it won't connect. They tell me it will be 2 days to run the diagnostic to figure out what is wrong. After they figure it out, they say that will give me a call and run me through service options on it. Oh, and they ask me to write down the administrators password for them.
I refused the loaner, because I thought it was only going to be 2 days, and that I could just use my laptop in the meantime. FOUR days later, I still have not heard back from Fry's. I give them all call, only to have them tell me "Your motherboard is bad, so we shipped the computer to CALIFORNIA to the HP service center to be fixed, since it is still under HP's warranty. It will be back in 4 -12 weeks." Needless to say, I was pretty pissed. I argued on the phone with the service center, saying they told me it would be 2 days, and I only dropped it off for a DIAGNOSTIC and that they were supposed to call me before they made any repairs. The guy on the phone argued with me, and told me I "was told it would be that long." I was NEVER told anything beyond 2 days to do the diagnostic!!!!!
Also, my boyfriend said that was strange because Fry's in Renton is an authorized HP repair center so they could do the repair right there.....and that they should NEVER have asked for my password. Boyfriend wasn't able to come with me when I dropped it off because he was in the hospital.
So I went in to get a loaner, because my laptop is dying and there is no way it would last for 2 months of heavy use. For a loaner they said they were out of HP computers, but they had a Gateway I could have that had "BETTER stats" than my HP. BULLSHIT! This gateway was a piece of crap. If you shut it down for the night it would delete all your files by running a "New computer" setup, so I had to leave it on for 4 weeks straight. It also liked to uninstall programs WHILE you were using them. You'd be humming along, doing your thing, and suddenly the program screen would go blank and the computer would tell you this program "is not installed" and you would have to reinstall it again before it would work again. After 4 weeks I couldn't take it anymore, and took it back and made them give me something other than a Gateway. While I was exchanging the computer they told me my computer was on its way back and should be back within a week.
1 week later, on Monday, I call the service center and get told "Your computer got back TODAY!! We just need to verify that everything works and we'll give you a call tonight when its ready!" Yay! I'm getting my computer back finally! Or so I thought.......
I never heard back from them on Monday, so Tuesday I call the service center and get told "Your computer got back TODAY!! We just need to verify that everything works and we'll give you a call tonight when its ready!" Yay! I'm getting my computer back finally! Or so I thought.......
I never heard back from them on Tuesday, so Wednesday , I call the service center and get told "Your computer got back TODAY!! We just need to verify that everything works and we'll give you a call tonight when its ready!" Yay! I'm getting my computer back finally! Or so I thought.......
I never heard back from them on Wednesday, so Thursday , I call the service center and get told "Your computer got back TODAY!! We just need to verify that everything works and we'll give you a call tonight when its ready!" By this point I AM LIVID!!!! And I burst into tears on the phone, so my boyfriend grabbed the phone out of my hand. He had to ask to speak to a manager for 20 solid minutes before the tech finally gets a manager for him.
Now remember, at this point I have NEVER gotten a call from them about my computer, which at this point they have had for 6 solid weeks and they have my cell number, my boyfriends cell number, and my work number.
My boyfriend speaks to the manager about what has been giong on, and asking if I'm ever going to see my computer again. So the manager looks up my repair case number in the system. Guess what he finds? THEY STILL HAVEN'T FIXED MY COMPUTER! AT ALL! They shipped it away to CA, but ordered the motherboard to be sent to the store in Renton. The manager is BAFFLED about why the tech shipped my computer away at all. He does say they have received my computer back in the store (he doesn't say when it came in) as well as the part, and that he will personally do the install and have my computer fixed ASAP. My boyfriend gets off the phone with him. About 1 hour later, the MANAGER calls me back to say the computer is ready, and that for all the trouble he will give us a free upgrade to a wireless card that we can pick out when I come pick it up and that they will install it for free.
We couldn't go get it that night, by then it was after 8 pm, but we do go in the next day. When we pick it up, they deny us the wireless card and say there are no such notes in the system. ARGH!~ By this point I'm honestly just happy to have my computer back.
Oh, and when I got it home the operating system was corrupted. I had to do a system repair with the repair disk to be able to use the computer after I got it home.
I AM NEVER TAKING MY COMPUTER TO FRY's to be fixed again! Next time I'll just void the warranty and have my boyfriend (a trained computer repair person) do the work himself!!!!!!!!
Also, if I had to do it again, on Sept 9th when I first found out my computer had been shipped away, I would go down to the store and throw a flying tantrum like I wanted to do in the first place! I just was trying to be a bigger person! tl/dr: I drop my computer off for a 2 day diagnostic and it turns into a 6 week battle to get back my computer from Fry's Service Center.
