Thank you so much for telling me how beautiful my engagment ring is. I'm very proud of it because I know how hard he had to work (and how much over time was needed) in order to afford it for me. You also now know that I'm only 22 because you just carded me for the cheap wine I was buying to celebrate our 5 year aniversary. What I didn't appreciate was the statement you made to the bagger as though I wasn't there:
"People are getting married too young these days. I mean I've been with my husband for 20 years. Do you know why?! Because we didn't just jump into marriage. Divorce was frowned upon for my generation."
You turned a shade of red I'd never seen when I told you we have been together for 5 years, and won't be getting married until after I graduate with my second Bachlor's degree.
*Edit*
It's been awhile since I've heard "Congrats on the engagment" just because we got engaged about 2 months after we started dating. I started out with a $0.25 ring out of one of those gumball machines, moved to the ring his dad gave him mom (who sadly is no longer with us), and now have my own BEAUTIFUL ring. Thank you all :)
It's one thing for her to think people should be together awhile before getting married, but when you just flat out tell me I'm too young that's annoying. She had NO idea how long we'd been together or anything.
