I ended up calling Dave's Mobile Repair in Williamsburg, VA. He quoted me a rate of $45 for the repair as I was supplying the part. Not bad at all considering the alternatives. He couldn't do the work till today though so it sat another day.
Well, the first thing I find out is that the belt I got was the wrong size. Not his fault, the people I asked at Autozone gave me the wrong belt. So he had to get the belt himself. I should have asked if there was going to be a charge for this, but having never really dealt with mechanics I didn't think to do so. Oh, what a mistake that was. He gave me a call about two hours later to tell me he had fixed my car. Great news, right? Then he told me the total. It ended up being one hundred and five dollars. I admit I got a little sucky here and took a rude tone. I asked how it cost that much. The breakdown was 45 for labor, 38 for the belt, and 22 for running to the store to get the part himself. I was furious. I asked him how come he never mentioned that fee. If I had known about it I would have bought the part myself and just waited a bit longer. Then he started talking about how if I had gotten the car towed to the dealership it would have cost me 3 or 4 times as much and that he did me a favor by fixing my car. How is it doing me a favor to charge me $60 more than I originally planned on spending?
If you ever get stranded and need a mobile mechanic in Williamsburg do not call Dave's Mobile Repair because he will rip you off.
Since it has already caused some confusion. My problem is the fact I was not told of this extra fee. If I had known that he would be charging this fee to go and buy the part I would have told him no thanks, I'll get it myself.
