Short version: Court-ordered to mental health treatment in 2008, represented by a public defender. Court assigned payee assigned to manage my SSDI and SSI. Fast-forward 2010, still on court commitment, have no idea how to contest it and no lawyer. Multiple problems with payee messing up my money.
Anyway, the payee's responsibility includes paying my bills. Today, he handed me a check and what I assumed was my electric bill, and said "Go pay this." I wondered why he was handing it to me instead of mailing it or running it over to the electric company himself, but took the items and started to walk to the electric company.
As I read the bill, I realized it was a disconnect notice--with today as the last day to pay.
It's not the first time he's done this--it happens all the time with my Brighthouse bill. But the electric bill? The ELECTRIC BILL?!?! I can't think of an excuse for that that doesn't involve a dead body.
I don't know what I'm supposed to do. I don't have any money and since I'm on disability, I'm stuck with this mental health provider.
