When we ordered she wandered away before asking me if I wanted grits or hash browns (it was a choice on the menu). I had to flag her down as she left to tell her. Someone else brought our food, she never asked us again how we were doing or if we needed anything, I had to flag her down to get our check.
This in and of itself sucked, I mean we were one of three tables in a very empty restaurant and we spoke to her exactly twice. What irritated me is she didn't disappear. No, she spent the whole time coming out to check and chat up the family behind us. Based on the questions I overheard (since they were sitting right behind me) she did not already know them and was buddy buddy because of that. She just seemed to like them (which is fine but christ don't ignore everyone else as a result).
So I was annoyed, I'm being ignored, she doesn't seem to be lazy about working, and now I'm left wondering what it is about myself and daughter that's not as great as this other family that we're ignored. I got the check and went to pay at the register.
I had basically decided not to ask for the manager or anything, just left no tip and went to pay. However the manager ended up being the one at the register and when she asked how everything was I said "Not good". I told her the food was great but our waitress didn't let us finish the order before walking away, never came back to ask us how everything was, and while very friendly to the family behind us never spoke to us past the initial hello.
She took twelve percent off our total (which was a bonus but not needed. I did enjoy the food) and said she'd speak to her. I don't plan on going back to that Denny's anyway. I was only in the area to see my mother at her work.
