So my boyfriend and I are both young, and we look like nice people. We're polite and easy going, unless you give us a reason not to be, and this sometimes makes me feel like cashiers assume because we're close to their age, we don't give a crap about what kind of service we recieve.
We were shopping at Sobeys [a grocery store] picking up a few things, and they were really slow. We didn't have to wait in line, as there was a cashier waiting at an empty till. We put our stuff on the belt, and she smiled at us, acknowledging us, and then as she was ringing us through, this happened
A few of her friends [I'm assuming] lined up behind us, and as we were standing there, she looked at them, laughed, and said
"You guys are losers! Like, you have nothing better to do than come shop at Sobeys?!"
This pissed me off a little bit, because hello, we were shopping at Sobeys too!
By this point I was just like wtf, finish up so I can go.
As my debit card was going through, she continued her conversation with them by saying "OMG I have to tell you about this woman that just came through my til. ewwwwww!"
She handed my reciept smiled and told me to have a nice night and then went back to her conversation. While we were walking to the car, my boyfriend asked me if that had really just happened. He then said "what if that "lady that just came through my till" had been my mom or someone I knew?
I've been a teenager with a boring as hell job, and I know it's nice to have your friends come see you once in ahwhile, but there's conversation that is and isn't appropriate in front of customers, and this really surprised me. I'm thinking of writing to corporate but I'm not sure if there's a point. What do you guys think?
