This months bill came... it is $152. She called to straighten it out, and apparently got her bill mixed with someone else's because she just moved. At first she was relieved because she can't pay that, she's on disability and manages every penny. Then they told her that she HAS to pay the $152, and then they will credit her the $127 to her account... which means her bill would be paid for about 5 months. She only wants to pay what she owes because that's what she can afford...
My mom told them that she will send them what she actually owes and nothing more. They told her that if she sent only what she "owes" and not pay for THEIR MISTAKE... they will shut off her phone. She told them to go ahead and shut it off and send her a corrected bill. They told her that if she wants to disconnect service, she has to pay the $152, then she'll get a check mailed back to her within 8-10 weeks for the remaining $127.
She decided to have it shut it off anyway, and told them she's going to send them what she owes and "what are you going to do, send me into collections for money I don't owe?"
Within 10 minutes... her phone was shut off. And her $25 monthly bill.. she still has 2 weeks on it.. so now she really only owes about $12-13 for them cutting it off early.
