Mattress Giant

A couple of weeks ago, I went into Mattress Giant and picked out a mattress. I didn't want to pay that day, so I got what they call a reservation which is basically a sheet of paper with an order number on it which guarantees the price for 7 days. You can also use this reservation to pay online, so you don't have to go back to the store.

I tried to pay online and my card kept getting declined. (I hadn't realized at that point that I had a daily limit on my debit card.) They told me I could not pay over the phone and had to go back to the store. This is all fine.

Last Saturday, I walked into the store and headed back to the desk. There were 2 men working at the time, one selling a bed to someone across the store who was obviously busy, and another who was helping an older couple close to the desk. When I walked in, the 2nd guy was showing the older couple a few different options and left them to decide, and to help me.

He stepped up to the desk, asked me what I needed, and I told him. So he starts looking up my reservation. Not even a minute later, the older couple comes over and announces, "We'll take that one!" -- at which point the employee stops helping me and begins asking them about which options they wanted, which size, etc. He didn't say one word to me, he just stopped what he was doing and launched into his sales pitch with this couple. Keep in mind that I knew exactly what I wanted, the invoice is in the computer, and I just wanted to give him my money.

I stood there patiently for more than 10 minutes before finally saying, "Should I come back?" because it was obvious, listening to them chat about sleep number beds and this and that, that I would be standing there for a really long time. And.... the guy looks up at me like I am being incredibly rude by interuppting him, and says, "If you wouldn't mind. We're really busy in here."

WHAT? I am all set, credit card out, wanting to pay him over a thousand dollars and he tells me to..... come back? I was too baffled/shocked to say anything.. I just walked out.

ETA: About 20 minutes later I had a receipt in hand from a locally owned store for $100 less than I was going to pay Mattress Giant. The frame was cheaper, the boxspring was free, the mattress was likely of better quality, and I got free delivery. So at least this story has a happy ending!
