I stopped at Target on my way home tonight. I'm finally ready to check out and all the lanes are pretty busy. I get in one lane and wait my turn. When there's just one more lady in front of me, the cashier turns off her light. She doesn't say anything about the lane being closed, and since I'm the last one in line I figure she'll help the people currently in line and then close the lane. I finish putting my things on the belt, she wraps up the previous customer's transaction, and then she just disappears. She doesn't say a word to me, she just walks off and disappears.
I stand there for a minute debating whether or not I should pack up my cart again and head to another lane when a different cashier comes over. I said something along the lines of "Oh, good. I wasn't sure if this lane was closed or what." And the new cashier said that the other cashier went on break.
Like I said, not a big deal - it was a minor inconvenience, but I thought it was really weird that she didn't say anything about going on break or that someone else would be there to help me in just a minute.
