firefly: uhhhhh

What, did the Pony Express have the day off or something?

To make a fairly long story short(er):

My mother has a number of health problems, and is in and out of the hospital. The night before last (Monday night) she went to the emergency room with chest pains and difficulty breathing. It's busy, and it takes about six hours for her to be seen by a doctor (this is not the bad service).

The doctor rushes in, says "I've seen your x-ray, it's just bronchitis, you're fine. Take these antibiotics and go home."

Okay. Except today she gets a letter in the mail from the hospital - by the way, you have Atelectasis in the base of your left lung, you need to make an appointment with your doctor right away. No explanation of what the heck Atelectasis is. My mother had to have me google it - and it means her lung is partially collapsed.

Awesome. So we have a patient with a somewhat-serious condition (especially for a woman with stage four emphysema and COPD making it hard to breathe already) that is easily seen on an X-Ray, a doctor who says he's SEEN the X-Ray but makes no mention of a COLLAPSED FREAKING LUNG and the patient is notified by snail mail two days later.

Is it just me or is this the stupidest hospital ever?
