Epic Bad Service

Not my bad_service, but it was CNN and really really upset me. (MODs if this isn't okay, sorry!)

http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/01/02/left.on.bus/index.html

For those of you who don't care to read the link:

A 22 year old special needs student with cerebral palsy was left on his bus overnight on Wednesday with no heat. The care taker on the bus knew that he was on the bus sleeping in the back but didn't tell the bus driver because she had an appointment to go to and didn't want to ride the bus route again. he was found and is now in the hospital safely recovering.

I'm completely appalled. First, the care taker couldn't be bothered to do her job. Secondly, she did it to a person who was physically and mentally disabled and obviously needed help. How the hell can you do that to another human being, especially knowing they could die because you didn't do your job.

[Twin Peaks] Cooper and His Coffee

Oh, USPS..

I live in an apartment complex with my fiance. The complex has three buildings, A B and C. I have not been getting mail that I am expecting, and now I think I know why.. Yesterday we got two small packages in our box. We are A107, and the packages were for A109, and B106. Today we got another, for A307. The people who live in these apartments have names which are kinda similar to ours (one letter different last names, same last name). However, our names and apartment number are very clearly written on the side of the box, easily seen when they are open to put the mail in. It just seems to me, if you can't keep your numbers straight or bother to pay attention to what you are doing, you shouldn't be handling peoples' mail.. I can understand the occasional mix up, but three things in two days? This isn't even the first time that something like this has happened.

I can only imagine who the heck has my packages, and can only hope that if someone else did get them, that they are honest people who will make sure they get to us (as we make sure the mail we get goes to the correct people). Not a lot of hope for that, since people have stolen packages from us before.. but then, maybe that's a rant for neighbors_suck instead..

I just want my stupid mail.

Annoyed at my university bookstore

I start school again on Monday so I decided to get my textbooks today and beat the crowds. I checked the bookstore hours on the university website and it said the store would be open from 10 to 5. I get there at 4... only to find a sign reading "WE WILL BE CLOSED FROM DECEMBER 24TH TO JANUARY 5TH."

I went back home empty-handed and re-checked the website. Sure enough, no mention that the store would be closed for almost two weeks. A page on textbook buybacks even mentioned that they would be taking place from January 2nd to January 4th, in the bookstore... despite its being closed?

Granted, this is my first year at university, so maybe there's a logic here that I'm not seeing, or maybe I just don't know yet that this is how things are done. But I think that (1) not announcing anywhere except the front door that the store will be closed (2) not reopening until the first day of term (3) advertising in-store book buybacks taking place during this closed period... is pretty lame service.
