I had a bit of a...strange experience at my local Friendly's yesterday. (General American-style diner with an emphasis on sundaes, for those who haven't been.) I'm not sure if it's bad service or WTF service, but either way, it made for a rather strange dining experience.

I'm completely addicted to their Mushroom, Swiss, and Bacon Burger. Having just started cutting calories, I decided I'd cut it in half and save the rest for later - but I wasn't sure what to do about the fries. I didn't want the temptation sitting on my plate, but when I scoured the menu for other side options, nothing was listed.

Well, Friendly's always puts a nice big spear pickle on the plate with their sandwiches, and I really enjoy them. I decided I'd just ask for a few extra pickles in lieu of fries. Yum! One pickle is never quite enough.

The server arrived. I ordered my burger. And then...

Me: Can I have a few extra pickles instead of fries?
Her: *staring at me as if I had just sprouted an extra head*
Me: ...
Her: *in a tone that suggests I may have just ordered fried baby seal* ...pickles?
Me: ....
Her: ...pickles are free, sweetie.
Me: Uh...
Her: Would you maybe like some broccoli? Or some mashed potatoes?
Me: Uh, some broccoli sounds good.
Her: *chuckling* Okay, and I'll bring you some extra pickles too.

Now, I'm not someone who generally makes a lot of changes or substitutions in my restaurant orders, so maybe I'm just not well-versed in this sort of thing. But it's not like their menu listed any substitutions for fries; I just picked something else that came on the side of the burger and asked for more of that. To her, it was obviously the most ridiculous thing anyone had ever asked for, but really...was the condescending tone necessary?

(When I got the burger, it had no spear pickle at all, just a tiny stack of about five pickle slices. So, somehow, I get less pickle than usual after asking for extra pickle. Also, the broccoli sucked, but I kind of expected that.)

Sexism at the gym (and not the way you are thinking)

edit :

I deactivated the comment notice because my inbox was receving new alerts every 5 seconds.
Thanks for your comments , even the ones who were not agreeing with me .

I know some might doubt the veracity of what I said but there is no reason for me to lie to you .
This is bad_service and the service and answers I got for the gym personel were unsatisfying thus I posted this here.
And i think I have created a social debate that is best conducted off livejournal ^^;

OH and  PS :
I'm not ugly thankyouverymuch!

Alright , I'd love to start by saying I love women .. very much ..

ok I'm gay and all but women are fun most of the time!

However I don't like this whole story that's going on at the gym that involves women.
See , the gym I go to is opening a second floor exclusive to women. Which is great because they have different needs and all.

At first I thought! Great! Maybe it will eliminate that flirting problem that's been going on for a while that kinda destroys the fun of working out because a good number of women go at the first floor level and pretend using machines to show off their curves (I'm not kidding!) So sometimes they will use them for extended periods of time while people like me who ACTUALLY NEED to use that machine wait.

Me and my father as well as some other people complained abut that problem and nothing was done and we were told that nothing serious was going on. (AKA WE LIKE LOOKING AT THEIR BOOBS)

So like I said we first kinda rejoiced when we learned of the female exclusive 2nd floor.

Until we learned that the first floor would still remain male/female . We again asked to know why?
And they said because it wouldn't be right for those ladies who wanna go on the first floor.
Of course I asked the big question "If I wanted to go upstairs , could I?"

And obviously the answer was no because some women were uncomfortable that guys were looking at themselves.
Well that's the bullshit reason they gave us anyhow.

Look , seriously that's sexism to the max , women can flirt on the main gym all they like , even to a point were it's somewhat creepy but THEY can be protected from similar attitude!

So I'm considering another gym for spring when my 1 year contract ends.
I want to g to a gym , not a goddamned speed dating party!
