We now have over 5,000 members. New rules (the ones promised, oh, last summer) are coming soon. However, there's probably a few issues that need to be cleared up.
For one thing, bad_service
has absolutely no policy on NSFW content, unless one of current rules can be applied (ie., NSFW content aimed to troll or flamebait). I also don't really have plans to institute any policy on such content in the new rules, unless there's a community demand for one.
There's also no written policy on the kind of comments that could be made on blatant rule-breaking posts. I'm sure a few of you have noticed that once the moderators have banned a rule-breaker and abandoned a post without deleting it, it's pretty much an assumed free-for-all. A clear, written policy may be desired.
In addition, there's probably something we've missed thinking about, and this is your opportunity to criticize, comment, or make suggestions to us. Any ideas, polite messages of loathing or hatred, or what-not can be posted here. Also, if you have any (safe for work) moderator themed icons or macros, please post them here. Especially if there are any ones friendlier than this one I'm using, which doesn't really apply to all situations.
Should be allowed (including pornography and shock)
Should be allowed, as long as it's not shocking (ie., vomit-worthy such as goatse)
Should be allowed, as long as they're not explicit (suggestive or art nudity ok, no porn or shock)
Should not be allowed (US network teevee rules)
Posts that blatantly break the rules
Should have open season called for snarks and macros
Should simply be deleted
Should have one of the above options happening on a case-by-case basis
Asides from insta-bans for spamming, blatant trolling, and good-bye posts
The usual practice of warning then permanently banning should be maintained
Temporary ban, then permanent ban (similar to some other communities)
Warn, temp ban, then permanent ban
OMFG, heck no!
Screening of private info comments by request of commentator
Should be freely allowed (OP can screen without asking a mod)
Should be discouraged; there's a "send message" feature on LJ now
Should only be done with mod permission (however long that takes)
Of the new rules draft being proposed here
#1 needs work or modification
#3 needs work or modification
#π (pi) needs work or modification
#4 needs work or modification
#5 needs work or modification
Why is there π?
New rules should be
Implemented upon perceived community consensus (up to the mod, based on community likes or can live with the new rules)
Implemented upon 50%+1 poll approval by community
Implemented at moderator's whim
Final draft of rules will have normal numbering. :)
