What not to do while on the clock

Normally, having worked in retail before, very little phases me. I went to Macy's yesterday to make a return and get something new. (my mom got me a birthday present of a pretty purse but couldn't use it cause of the type of handles). So I go during my lunch hour, find a new purse am nice to the cashier lady making small talk and all. They were super busy, turns out it was the last day of the "friends and family" day. The lady gives me a card for that so I end up with a good half of my original gift card still left so figure I'll come back after work (my lunch hour was up).
When I went back after work it was a whole new world. It was still incredibly busy so I had to hunt down an employee to find the price on a untagged shirt I found who t hen jsut found a shirt by the same company and said this price will do. I ended up finding a shirt also by the same company but $40 less and I double checked she said that would be fine too. Apparantly it was pick your own price day.
Anyway most of this is brush-offable, the final straw was when I went to check out. The nice lady wasn't gone for the day so went to another cashier who was helping this cranky couple first, after they left I said something about it being crazy in there and she smiled and rang me out, but half way through the transaction she answered her cellphone and started talking to soemone about seeing a movie after work. Not only did this slow her down considerably (and I only had 5 items total to begin with) but she didn't even say another word to me except the total and then jsut handed me a reciept and turned around to continue her call.
At that point I was done so I left but seriously, I can forgive any number of things, especially on a busy as hell sales day but to answer a personal cell call while helping a customer? I'd get reprimanded at work for even having it out and I'm in a call center.

0% on Balance Transfers

Here's a quick one from years ago (afraid I can't even remember who issued the card 'though it was a MasterCard).

I had about a $2000 balance on my current CC when I received an offer to sign up for a new card. No annual fees and 0% interest for one year on all balance transfers. Sweet.

I got the card and transferred the whole two grand over. About six months go by and I am steadily paying the balance down making AT LEAST two payments a month (the regular monthly statement plus a "bonus" payment I am sending in midway between monthly statements).

About six months into it I get a statement where I am charged interest so I call the 1-800 number to straighten it out. When I explain my problem to the CSR she tells me to hold while she looks up my account...

CSR: Oh...that's odd.
ME: You figured I must have missed a payment or gone over my limit?
CSR: That's usually why the interest gets charged and the rate goes up.
ME: But your records show that I've been making at least two payments a month like clockwork and have never used the card other than the balance transfer?
CSR: Yes. This is some sort of mistake...I'll remove the interest charge and fix it.

Well, she did remove the interest charge but apparently she did not, and no one else could, fix the basic problem. For the next four months (until I got it paid off and canceled the damn card) I had to call each month to have the interest that had been added to my 0% interest balance transfer taken off. Each rep said they would take off the interest and fix the problem. Each month I would recieve a new statement with the last months interest removed but interest added for the current month.

Joann.com's Bad Service

On the 25th of April I went online to purchase the two colors of fabric I needed for a cosplay costume I wanted to have finished before mid-May. I went to syfabrics.com, which I had had a lovely success with in the past and would recommend their service to anyone. I paid about $20 for the 6 yards of Orange Fabric and $9 for shipping. I was sad because they did not have the material in black, nor could I find anything similar, so I went elsewhere.

Since I love their physically-based stores, from Joann.com I purchased the Black Fabric. Just an normal black polyster fabric to match the orange. Five yards of it for about $15 with $7 in shipping fee. It said this would have a 5-10 day shipping for the price I chose.

I think I will refrain from using their service in the future. I still cannot believe they hadn't emailed me until NOW, already after the fact I was supposed to have received it.

Ew.

A letter I sent to the manager of a campus food store.

Elisabeth,

Hello.  I realize that it's almost the end of the semester, and sometimes things get a bit lack.  However, I purchased a sandwich today from 23rd street market which had lettuce that was literally rotten.  The bread was stale as well, but that could have been from the refrigeration.  I had to throw out the sandwich after one bite.

I've worked in food service, so I know that sometimes things can get hectic and some things can go a miss.  However, especially as the sandwich did not have a date on it, I have no idea how long it had been there.  I just thought I would give you a heads up that those might need to be checked.  I would hate for someone to get sick from improperly stored food, especially at the end of the semester.

Thanks,
Tess

This are supposedly "fresh made" daily... yeah no. And now I have no dinner :(
