Temp agencies can give bad service, too

Back in February, an agency called me about a customer service job. The pay was crappy, but I wasn't going to pick, since iot was a casual environment, not stressful, and the hours were good, things I was having trouble finding.

It took them two days to get a start date and time out of the client. After several rounds of it being changed and pushed back, I finally got a straight answer out of them about the date and time.

So far, so good. I about have a little trouble finding the place, so I call the agency to let them know I'm running late and why. Here's what I'm told:

"Well, we don't know where you got the idea that the start date was today, we called everyone to tell them that the date had been pushed back yet again by the employer."

Well, guess who didn't get this call? If you guess Nyxalinth, you would be correct.

I tell them "Well, I get the idea from being told to call Thursday to find out, and after repeated runnings in circles from your admin and receptionist they tell me they called the employer and were finally told BY THE EMPLOYER that the start date would be 8 am on Monday."

"Well, we have no knoweldge of that, and we don't know why you didn't get the message, but we apologise. The employer is still pushing back the start date, though, do you still want the job?"

Well, by now, I'm pretty pissed off. I have thoughts of things I would love to say, but in the interest of not burning my bridges, I say, Well, if the employer is having this much trouble deciding a start date, they might just up and decide to lay us all off suddenly. I don't have a good feeling about this, and plus, a 90 minute bus ride with a more than a mile walk is just too much for only 9.00 an hours. Let's try to find me something closer, and I appreciate the apology."

It wasn't the distance, really. I need work, and I would walk ten miles for a job if I had to. It was their lack of organization and communication along with the feeling of "Oh shit, it's her again, let's make something up so she'll quit calling!" from the receptionist and the admin on Thursday.

So anyone in the Denver metro area reading this, avoid the Aurora office of Office team like the plague.

ETA: Changes and delays, they happen, sure. It's the nature of the temp agency beast. I mostly didn't appreciate being told by the receptionist and the admin a start date that wasn't real (possibly), and also, I didn't like not being called about it. There was never at any point a message on my machine about it, not even days later.

Does not compute!

I woke up with a nasty chest cold on Monday. It got progressively worse throughout the week despite my attempts to get rid of it at home without antibiotics, and I made an appointment to see my doctor yesterday. My appointment was at 10:30. I arrived on time. I sat in the waiting room for over an hour. People that had come in after me waited for probably five minutes before being called back.

When I was finally called back, not only did I not get any kind of apology about my wait, I get the "weird" nurse (seriously, there's something off about her and I don't like her). I had to remind her four times that I wasn't there for my regular OB appointment. You'd think the violent coughing fits, lack of voice and all that good stuff would have tipped her off. She finally is done doing whatever she is doing and tells me the doctor will be right in.

So, I wait. And wait. And wait. For another hour. Now, by this time, I have to pee pretty badly, but I'm afraid to get up on the off chance that my doctor will come in. It's really hard to hold your bladder when you've got a fetus bouncing around on it. So, I'm just kind of sitting there, crossing my legs, trying to calm down Mr. Active in my uterus.

Doctor finally comes in, and apologizes for my wait. And then he is reading my chart and freaks out because it was never written down that I received a Rhogam shot. Luckily, I have indeed had my shot. Guess who gave it to me? Weird nurse. Thank you, weird nurse, for neglecting to do your duties and update my chart after the fact. Anyway, my whole appointment with him lasted about five minutes.

I waited two hours for a five minute appointment. Awesome.

This is another story from the maintenance crew that has a tendency to just mess things up. This time, it wasn't bats.

On April 28th, we got a notice stating that we'd be having an electrician come in to take a look at our fuse box between the hours of 12-2 PM. It was mildly confusing, since we've never had any issues with our electricity, but figured they were just checking up on it. Fine.

Points of annoyance:

* I was home the entire time, since I didn't work. Literally every fifteen minutes, the electrician knocked on our back door, to inform us that he was still busy with the downstairs neighbors. Literally seven or eight times during the span of two hours. We're on the third and uppermost level, so he did this when he was busy with the second and first floors. It was irritating because after the first time, I told him I understood that this takes a long time, and that I'd be here all day. Perhaps it was just a courtesy, which is fine. But seven or eight times? Come on.

* When he did come in it was around 3:30 PM. He used the key, and was so quiet that I had no idea he was there until my power was turned off. Yes, I figured that was part of the whole process, but why no warning? He knew I was home, I told him I was going to be home all day. I was in my room, and my door was wide open. The annoying part was that I was on the computer. Had he given me even a few minutes of warning, I could have shut my, and my roommate's, computer off.

* The power was still off when he left. I had to turn it back on myself. Probably not that huge of a deal, but it would have been nice to have it turned back on. I thought that was part of the deal? Maybe not.

* The absolute worst part: Yesterday, I realized that the thermostat in the kitchen was set past the 90 degree marker. The thing is that all of this stuff happened on April 30th. The electrician did not inform me he was going to be messing with the heat (which is electricity-based), and he did not turn it back down. And I know he was the one who did it, because neither my roommate nor myself have had the heat on since March, due to it being warm in these parts.

I feel stupid for it taking so long to notice (almost 48 hours!), but it had been very humid and warm, thunderstorm weather. And our kitchen has always been a good ten degrees or so warmer than the rest of the house. Our electricity bill was insane in the membrane during winter, which is why once it got past 30 degrees, we started turning it off and keeping it off. If he had warned me, I could have turned it off the second he left, or at least reminded him not to leave it on.

Maybe he was just forgetful, but damn.

Next time, I'm going to baby-sit this guy (he's the only electrician the company employs, if I recall). He clearly can't be trusted to turn stuff on/off when he messes with it.

USPS woes and advice needed

I haven't received any mail in almost 3 months. Well, I take that back, I have received some junk mail and a few odd bank statements, but nothing else. Since early February, I have been waiting on my tax return check, a new state ID card, the results of a pelvic exam, and medical coupons and here it is May with still no sign of them.

I have called all of these places to figure out what the issue was and it turns out, my mail has been getting sent back to where it came from marked as "Not at this address" by the post office (my ID has been returned three times now and the medical coupons twice). I have been into my local P.O. three times; each time I was told that the mail carrier thought I no longer lived at my house and that it would be corrected and I should receive mail again starting the next day. I just found out today that yet another piece of important mail was returned (this time from a family member) for no reason whatsoever. I have lived at my current address for over 2 years and my name is on the mailbox and there is no reason for them to think I have moved, so I really don't see what the issue is.

At this point I am furious. I had my hours cut at work so I really needed to get my tax return check on time, I've been walking around with a paper temporary ID for several months now, and I can only hope everything looked okay on my pelvic exam since I haven't received the results (they won't give them over the phone and I have to wait awhile to get another appointment). Even putting in a change of address saying I do live at my house hasn't fixed the problem, so what now? Is there some way to lodge a complaint with the USPS (all the websites I've found are for complaints about mail fraud, which I'm not sure applies to my situation)? Am I going to have to stay home from work to talk to my mail carrier in person to confirm with him that I do want my mail delivered? Right now I am trying to have things sent to my boyfriends house and considering paying for a P.O. box, but I don't feel like I should have to do that in order to receive my mail.
