About three years ago (three years and three months, actually), I called a local taxi firm.  We (my boyfriend's family and I) called a good twenty minutes before we actually needed it to arrive, and it's a good thing we did, because it never showed.

I called every five minutes or so, and each time was told that it was on its way.  Finally, after twenty minutes, the operator confessed that she didn't have a taxi free to send us.  I hung up, and eventually we scrabbled around for another number, and managed to get there in time - but not before I'd asked her "Are you aware that we're going to my grandfather's funeral?".

Edit;  Few points.

We were told that the taxi would be there within three to five minutes at first, and the second taxi firm made it in that time.  That's also a perfectly normal timeframe for here.
I mentioned my grandfather's funeral once we'd already accepted that we'd need to call someone else; I didn't expect her to magically find a taxi.
Thirdly, I was just sixteen, and very close to my grandfather; yes, I did learn from it.

Sunday Morning Breakfast...Beyond Leisurely

The local diner has some great servers. This isn't one of them:

It took five minutes to get water. That should have been our clue this was going to be a mess. The waitress took our order, which included coffee. We had a ten minute wait for her to go across the room (not all that far) to get it. Breakfast arrived shortly after the coffee.
The waitress never came back to refill cups. However, she did go to the table behind us with the pot and to the table in front of us. Maybe she didn't think we deserved coffee refills.
Worst part was, every time she walked by she would turn in such a way that we couldn't even get her attention. We finally called to her from across the room (she was deep in discussion with another waitress). She brought a refill and now became obxiously attentive. Example1: I had ordered a meal that was totally devoid of cholesterol. In addition, I had specified that I would like Promise instead of butter for my bagel. With better than half the bagel eaten, she insists that I should have cream cheese for the bagel. Example2:I had eaten the top half and a small amount of the bottom of my bagel. She wanted to wrap it up for me to take home. Sorry, but a bagel with Promise on it holds no allure for being eaten later in the day.
To say that service sucked is to be exaggeratingly kind. What should have been a 40 minute meal at most took close to 1.5hours.

I should have posted here about this a LONG time ago, but honestly, I forgot about this community.

Back in the beginning of November (November 9th, I do believe), I placed an order with http://www.gnomespixiesandmore.com/ for a Christmas present for my dad. Thinking that this was AMPLE time to receive it, as I don't like cutting it close when it comes to Christmas shopping.

7 days after placing the order I get a confirmation email saying that the item had shipped. GREAT, I think to myself. One less present to have to worry about. Boy how I was mistaken.

Over the course of the next week, I checked on the status of my order, and it always said "preliminary", even though I had received a shipping notice. A phone call to the "company" tells me that it's not a company at all, but some woman working out of her HOUSE in Canada. No big deal, I'll just leave a message and they'll call back. HA! A week goes by, and I don't hear anything, so I call back again. Nothing. Leave another message. Call back the next day and FINALLY get Lori, the "owner". Apparently there was a problem in the warehouse, and my order would ship out as soon as possible. Fine. Whatever. 2 weeks later I get an email saying that my order had been shipped. Ok...now we're moving.

A slight back story. I moved into an apartment in May of last year, so all of my mail has been getting forwarded to my apartment. Now, I don't want this package sent to my apartment because I just don't trust people, so I request that it be sent to me at work. That's the address that I put in ON THE WEB SITE WHEN I PLACED THE ORDER. Come to find out, the package got shipped to my parents' address, the address on my Paypal account that I forgot to change prior to paying (this was partially my fault, but mostly on their end). I try to contact Lori to find out which address she shipped it to. No response. I email. No response. I find ANOTHER email address for her, no response.

FINALLY, I get a hold of a tracking number and see that it was delivered to my parents' house, but had to be forwarded to my new address. GRRRRRRRRRRR. Forwarding a package like that costs extra. I call up Lori yet again, and tell here that I don't know where my package is, and didn't know if it was being returned to her, or if it was going to get forwarded (USPS didn't have that information). This is all happening on the Monday the week before Christmas. I find the charge on Paypal and begin the dispute charge, just in case something happened to the package, because lord knows, Lori was far from dependable at this point.

As it turns out, the package IS forwarded to my new address, but they won't leave it without a signature. Of course, they attempt delivery on the Saturday before Christmas while I'm not home. UGH! Christmas Eve I schlep myself off to the post office to pick up my package, and pay the extra $6 that it cost to forward my package. Thank Gord it wasn't damaged.

When I last spoke with Lori, she agreed to reimburse me for the forwarding charge, even though I wanted her to refund my entire shipping fee (on the order to $20) because SHE sent it to the wrong address. If you're going to ship to the Paypal address, WHY would you ask for a shipping address on YOUR order page?? Fine. Whatever. Give me my money back.

The Paypal dispute is closed because "she can't refund me with the dispute still open". I find this a tad fishy, but close it anyway. It's only $6, if she flakes out on me. A month goes by, no refund. 6 weeks, no refund. I email her to find out what's going on with my refund. No response. I email her again, no direct response. 1 week later, I finally have my refund back to my Paypal.

It took almost 4 months for this woman to set things straight.

I am NEVER doing business with her again, and I strongly urge you to spread the word.

Bridal Shop Suck

Long time lurker...blah blah...on to the suck.

My friend became engaged over the summer/fall and asked me to be her Maid of Honor. I accepted and soon after she chose a designer for her bridal party to wear. Only one store in the area carries this designer--Collapse )

ETA: My mom went this morning and was met with another angry mob (30+ people according to the news. My mom calls BS and says 50) and even more news cameras. Managment never showed up nor did employees. Someone was able to get ahold of an employee who says she's going to come at 1pm and let people in one by one. If the dress has been paid for in full and it's in the store she claims she'll give it to people--no questions asked. My dress is paid in full, but the alterations have not been paid for. So my mom has a book and all my paperwork and is waiting in line to see if the girl actually shows up. I'm going on my lunch break to see if anything actually happens.

ETA II I HAVE MY DRESS!!! The police were called in, and they finally opened the store around 1:30. They let us in one and a time to see if they could help us. I snagged a spot at the front of the line and the girl inside recognized me and called me in. I was very lucky--my dress was there and I didn't have to pay for alterations. Others weren’t so lucky. One woman called the manufactures of her wedding dress. The bridal shop never placed her order, and was shocked to learn that the shop was still carrying the dress as the style had been discontinued for at least a year. This poor woman is out her money and only has a month before her wedding. :-( http://www.myfoxwghp.com/myfox/pages/Home/Detail?contentId=5821989&version=3&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=1.1.1

The best local coverage---I actually made the video carrying out my dress. And apparenty they have an exclusive interview with a former employee at 10. THanks for the words of support and advice!
