Condoms, Rose!

So let me get this straight...you don't want me to pay you?

A mild annoyance, and very bad customer service.

So our Christmas gift from my husband's aunt was the money to pay off our credit card bill with Citi. Thus far, I've had no complaints from the company...we always pay our bill on time, and while there is a high balance from some unforeseen financial hardships that happened earlier this year, we have never made a peep about getting our fluctuating payments to them on time. We've been very good customers, pay early, and don't go above our limit. I think that's really all a CC company can ask for.

But I digress.

I have been battling Circuit City for about three months now and tomorrow should be the end of it. Even though I have tried to summarize this story as best as possible, it still turned out lengthy, so work with me here.

About a year and a half ago, I bought a laptop from Circuit City and purchased the two-year warranty with it. Three months ago, something happened to Windows to make one of the System32 files corrupt, disabling Windows. I couldn't even get it into safe mode. So I take the computer to Circuit City for a diagnostic covered under warranty. A few days later, they tell me that the computer's so fucked that not even the diagnostic will run. They tell me that they will have to ship it back to the manufacturer to fix it via replacing the parts. I take the computer home briefly to extract the hard drive to save all my crap then give it back to Circuit City to be shipped off.

I get the computer back around two weeks later. I turn it on only to find that Windows isn't installed. In a bit of a shock (thinking I was going to get a functional computer), I call Circuit City and ask what exactly happened to it. They tell me that I have to use the Windows setup disc that came with the computer in order to reinstall it. Problem is, my computer never came with one. It came with Windows already installed on it, so the disc was not necessary. I go to HP's website (the brand of my computer) and order a special disc just for my computer.

I get the disc and load it in. All is well until the CD tries to copy files from the disc to the computer. One file would either not copy correctly or not copy at all, and when prompted to skip it, another would have an error. And another. And another. I call HP, and they tell me that the disc itself is probably bad. They offer to send me a free one, but when I call up the next day to take them up on it, they decline any knowledge of it.

So I buy another disc. Same problem. I figure there must be something wrong with the computer if it can't copy the discs. Now I call Circuit City and ask them if there is anything I can do. After all, it was Circuit City who caused my computer to be blanked in the first place. (I had this dumb assumption that sending my warrantied computer to be fixed would get it fixed, not present me with a new problem.) They tell me that since software is not covered in the warranty, I am shit out of luck. Up to this point I have been irritated, but by now I am pissed. I send them my computer that is broken, and it gets sent back with the original problem fixed, and now a new problem that they are responsible for that they turn around the decline responsibility for at the same time. My original warranty states that if my computer is dead that they will replace it with a new one, but since the cause of death is now a software issue, it's no longer under warranty. Wtf is this shit? The most they can do is send it back to the manufacturer AGAIN. What will they do this time? Oh, it turns out that they didn't replace ALL the parts last time, but this time they'll replace everything they didn't replace last time. Good thing I don't have to pay shipping charges for this mess.

So my computer gets shipped out a second time. Two weeks, then three weeks pass. Nothing. I call Circuit City to ask about an update on the shipment. They report that the computer has been shipped out. However, UPS does not report receiving it, nor does the manufacturer. So where the hell is my computer?! Circuit City lost it. They tell me they have no idea where it is.

Get ready for my favorite part. Circuit City does not claim any responsibility for shipped items once they are shipped. Makes sense since if UPS fucks up and loses it, it's not Circuit City's fault. But UPS did not ever get my computer. BUT, since Circuit City reports shipping it, then they're not responsible since they think it's beyond that stage. In a nutshell: they lost my computer and they won't do shit about it. Everyone on my friends list knows already how I feel about this. I will spare you the bold red 50px capslock profanities and simply say I was pissed. Instead of marching straight into the store screaming my head off, I decide to wait until I get a free day to sort things out and calm down in order to get the most civil response out of them.

Meanwhile, a package arrives at my house. It's from the manufacturer. It's special packaging to ship my computer to them, the first time it was supposed to be shipped. I guess that means Circuit City sent my computer in any old box they could find instead of manufacturer-approve laptop shipping. Great. What do I care anyway? It's GONE.

Now we're in present time. A few days ago I found out that the computer was somewhere in the store all along. They offered to ship it again. I declined and went to pick it up. Right now I have the computer next to me. This shit has gone far enough. I called Circuit City today and spoke to a store manager. I tell him my whole story. Get this: he tells me to come in tomorrow with the computer to do a flat exchange for a brand-new, new-model laptop. I am so relieved to finally hear what seems to be the end of this, but it's too good to be true. I'm trying so hard to be optimistic but I just can't. Too many times I thought I saw the end of this but it led to more and more crap. I'm having a hard time getting to sleep now mainly due to the fact that this can only lead to more stress knowing their "tough cookies" approach from earlier.

Well, here goes.

Xm Radio

Hi!  My hubby has had XM radio service in his car for the past year (or longer).  We recently had to get a new receiver for it because ours died.  When he went to activate the receiver, the rep told him "You qualify for a promo that we've having where you get three months free." *Yay* Service is normally somewhere around $15/month.  So I wasn't expecting anything from them for the next 3 months.
WRONG!  I checked my account this morning and there was a charge on there for $7 from XM.  So I call them up and ask why of course.  They say oh, this is the promo that we're doing.  But I tried to explain to the Indian rep (no offense to anyone that may be from India, but when they outsource and I can't understand the rep it's very frustrating) that we were supposed to get 3 months FREE...and to me free means NO charges.  Apparently, that's only in mine and hubby's universe, because the rep went on to say that you get 3 months free within a 6 month time frame (so basically, it's just half off for 6 months).  I told him that that was not explained to my hubby and that they should clarify that better when they are offering the promo and say that it's half off for 6 months and not 3 months free.

To recap: The bad service (at least from my point of view) is that they did not explain themselves clearly.

Compass PMC: It ends with a nice revenge.

I used to have an apartment with a roommate that was handled by Compass PMC in Southern California. We had to mail our rent, which was weird but never a problem...except for when there were three day weekends.

I mailed our September 06 rent on August 31 (Thursday). On September 6, we get a note on our door saying we haven't paid. I call up the rent coordinator and get her voice mail saying that I mailed it in August and because of the three day weekend, it may be late. Like it was. On the three day weekend in July. And if they don't get the check the next day, I will go over and give them the payment directly.

I hear nothing back. I follow up a week later. Nothing.

Until the 21st where I get a call saying, "OMG, WHY HAVEN'T YOU PAY US?" I ask when I need to pay them by. "TOMMORROW, 8 A.M. OR EVICT! CASHIERS CHECK BITCHES!" (I am slightly paraphrasing.)

So I get it to them that night.

Then comes January. We owe a $75 late fee from September.

I email the rent coordinator and explain the situation and why we feel we shouldn't have to pay this, being that I took steps to prevent it being absurdly late and hadn't heard back from her.

Then? LIES.

The coordinator tells me she tried to contact me several times via phone (she didn't) and never got a voice mail from me. I made the call using my employer's phone which logs every call. I send her this log, highlighting my calls out and my one call in from her.

I then get, no paraphrasing, "Who called who when is irrelevent."

She has cc'd her supervisor at this point and we have to pay the $75 because with that statement, I realize that I am dealing with crazy people.

I break the bad news to my roommate but tell her, "I have a plan."

We were each trying to get rid of old checks with our old address. We paid Compass PMC their &$75. Using 42 checks of varying amounts.

So we take our shih-tzu Sophie to a local groomer in town. The first few times was fine, the price was good and the woman genuinely cared for the animals she groomed, but lately it's been like a scam to get more money out of us. We comb Sophie out really good the night before we take her in - one time we spent nearly three hours combing her out and she charged us extra, shaving her down so small she was so cold, claiming she was matted. This has happened at least two or three times. One time she called us up saying Sophie bit her when she was combing her, this pissed me off because Sophie NEVER bites.

Today she calls and tells my mom that Sophie is 'loaded' with fleas, that they just came out like crazy when she gave her a flea bath. The both of us are like, 'what fleas?' because we combed her for nearly an hour last night and we looked through her throughly and found nothing. She sent mom home with shampoo and we have to wash them every seven days with this stuff or something like that. She charged mom 50 some dollars for it, when it's usually 30-35. I'm starting to think she's doing this to get extra money out of us, because the last groomer we took Sophie to cut her leg and the poor thing was traumatized about it for nearly a month, and we live in a small town that has barely any groomers. So, there really isn't anyone else we can take her to.

Dad was also telling me she didn't seem to pleased with Sarah's appearance (she's our 5 and 1/2 month old shih-tzu, who has a major overbite and she wheezes a lot because her one nostril is smaller). That doesn't surprise me seeing as all of her shih-tzu's are show dogs or breeders, and she has this frame of mind of what a 'perfect' shih-tzu looks like. It bothers me because even though she wheezes and her lip sticks out, I love the little baby.

Dell customer service?!

Okay, so this isn't a major suck in the least, but it is VERY annoying, and I hate being 'pressured' into doing anything.

Information; I recently woke up to find that my bluetooth usb port had melted through the night (we're thinking electrical problem in the house we're renting, Mom just got a divorce from Dad and now we live with Mom, boyfriend, me, sister, animals.). Since that happened, my computer has died as well (I was only able to get to the welcome 'pick your user' screen anyhow).

My mother told me she would buy me the computer I wanted, since I'm getting money from the car wreck I was just in, as well as from college things.

So she calls Dell, on my behalf, regardless of the fact that I was finished processing my own order online.

The guy at Dell can hear me, so I'm telling him what I want.

* - My mom works for Intel. She gets a LOT of free software, or at least very CHEAP software.

Me: Hi.
ICSR: Irritating Customer Service Rep.

Me: I want to upgrade the monitor to the anti-glare, and the harddrive to 120gb instead of 80gb.
Him: Okay, what about software?
Me: I don't want the Yahoo jukebox stuff, I want the Microsoft pack WITHOUT Word.*
Him: Okay. *blahblahblah* Virus protection? Warranty? Four-year break guarantee?
Me: One year in-home warranty, the virus protection that comes with the computer for 30 days, no break guarantee (this is for if -I- broke my computer, dropped it, etc.)
Him: Are you suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure you don't want the break guarantee?
Me: Yes, I don't want to pay that much for something I won't be doing. I'm on a budget.
Him: ARE YOU SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURE? x4.
Me: YES. I DON'T WANT IT. x6.

Note that I was paraphrasing, I wasn't irritated (to him, but my Mom surely got a lot of 'JESUS GET HIM TO SHUT UP PLZ' that I made sure he couldn't hear. :D

All in all. I -HATE- being asked things more than twice. Once, okay. Twice, fine. After that, please leave me the FUCK alone. You aren't dealing with someone who is average joe, you're dealing with a currently unmedicated college student who needs a fucking computer. I don't want you pushing shit on me, okay?

The picture says it all...

This happened at the beginning of the summer, but the other post about grooming made me think of it and it still pisses me off.

ETA: Since so many people asked in the comments, no she didn't get paid for this dog, my other dog was just a bath and wash though, and I paid her for that.
