A few months ago, my boyfriend placed an order for a cornetto. The advertised price was $800. The cornetto maker said that he wouldn't be able to start it until the summer.
A few days ago he received an e-mail from the guy saying that he had to raise his rates; now the cornetto will cost $1300.
My boyfriend was planning on using a school grant, which was awarded for the specific cost of the instrument.
I don't think the cornetto maker was acting illegally, since nothing was paid for yet. But a $500 increase on an $800 instrument is a huge pain in the ass, especially with the issue of the grant money.
