death of rats

This is easily the worst service I've ever recieved.

My boss asked me to overnight a package to our owner in Florida this morning. I don't usually ship a lot of things, so this was a new adventure to me. There's a small shipping place that's right across the street from us, and I like supporting local businesses (like ourselves), so I went in to see them.

I went in, and there are two guys in there. One seems like a new guy (the older guy is showing him how to work the computer), and they're relatively pleasant to me. They measure my box, put in the zip code, and announce that the shipping will be around $88 for FedEx, around $78 for UPS, and around $60 for USPS for next day delivery, on a Saturday.

At this point, I'd like to add that the box was smaller than a shoebox, and weighed a little over 9 oz. It was prepackaged, taped, etc, basically all they had to do was throw the label on it and dump it off with the correct person.

I have to admit, that I was't sure about this, but it did seem very steep. Since I'd only brought $40 from the office with me, I told him that I was going to go and try it at the post office. And he said, "They are going to be exactly the same!"

I left, and went to the post office.

The same package was shipped there with next day delivery and confirmation for $18.00.

The guys had seemed nice, so I thought at this point that maybe their scale was off or something, because seriously, nobody would dick their customers over that badly. Or so I thought.

I went back in, and he immediately scowled at me. I said, "I'm sorry to bug you again, but I think your scale may be miscalibrated..." and I explained to him about the price difference. Man, he exploded from behind the counter, yelling at me that he was running a business, and didn't I mark stuff up to make money at my business, etc and so forth. I should have just left at that point, but because I'm dumb, I asked why he had told me that the post office would be the same, and he started yelling that that wasn't what he'd told me, and that I needed to get off his property.

Ok.

So I left. Needless to say, we're not using them anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I apprieciate that people have to make money... but 200% markup for putting a label on a box? Yowch.

Fedex.com gives me a quote of $50.88 for their delivery of the same box, and UPS gives me $51.97 (which I admit, I may have entered something in wrong, but that still seems like a huge difference.)

Long time lurker, first time poster, that sort of thing.

Cafeterias count when we're talking bad service, right? Though, half of it's more annoying service than bad.

Our university dining hall (at least the one for my residence hall) has the hours of 8am-8pm Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm Saturday, and noon-8pm Sunday. Late night take-out is from 8-11pm Sunday-Thursday.

Except that, very often, they'll start closing up at 7:00 instead of 8:00. I mean, I can understand cleaning up and putting up chairs at 7:30, and not serving any food after that, but they will clear out the food by 7:00, and start putting up chairs and turning off lights when a lot of people are still eating. (Usually this is on Friday, but it's often on Thursday and other nights as well.) A lot of the workers are students. I realize that they're spending their weekend nights scraping food off of plates and washing dishes and stuff, but it's their job to provide the other students with food. Maybe I'm just being picky, since I've never worked closing at any of my previous jobs.

Also, a lot of the dining halls have sandwich bars, kind of like a mini Subway. I used to get the sandwiches a lot, and always got tuna salad because I have a weird obsession with certain sandwiches. But I haven't had one for the last four months, because the last time I got a tuna sandwich from there, there was a huge chunk of popsicle stick in there. It had obviously broken off when they were stirring the tuna, and there were a lot of splinters in it. I ended up taking a huge bite and sinking my teeth pretty deep in that stick before I realized it was there.

It just kind of annoys me that we're paying so much for these meal plans when we're getting substandard food, and we're not allowed to be in there as long as they advertise.
