Here's a dilemma, of sorts.

I currently work for a major university in the north-east of the United States, and use a telephone that USED to be the number for a doctors group over six years ago.  I currently have the number, so it should be obvious that I am NOT...a doctors office.

At the beginning, I was receiving about 10 calls a day from patients asking for an appointment with a doctor regarding the patients multitude of problems, most distressing are the ones from the elderly that are hard of hearing and panicking parents when their newborn needs a specialist immediately because it's sick.

Around every three months, (Aetna, Univera, Independant Health...etc...) call to verify doctors information so they can update their listings.

If these health care providers are doing this, and I REPEATEDLY inform them that this number is no longer the number for that doctor, and to PLEASE finally remove my number from the listings....WHY do they repeatedly call me to verify the information.

I operate a semi-busy office, and sometimes have to field 50 calls a day to waste my time explaining this to them.

After ten of those calls to PLEASE do so, I do manage to get a little impatient.

Do not call me uncooperative when I've even gone through the trouble to inform them of updated numbers (which, in fact, is NOT in my job description!).

Their uncooperative attitude of "yeah yeah, we'll take care of it" leaves a bad taste in my mouth if they expect me to sit their and take care of their mistakes while their customers are inconvenienced having to deal with an irate person that has nothing to do with any of the process of them to make any appointments.

Geeeeez!!!! GET A CLUE!

(Since writing this message, I've already gotten five six calls for information verification)

Maybe it's just me.. but I think that if a credit card company's fraud department is going to call you the first time you use their card in a local college bookstore to make sure the card isn't being used fraudulently...

...they should also call you when there is a charge for the equivalent of $40 in the currency of Estonia for some random unidentifiable company.

Maybe I expect too much though. Now I have to wait for a month while they request a receipt from said unidentifiable company to figure out who the hell used my card... since the bill was already processed.

A similar tale! But with more rambling!

I never even thought of this when thinking of bad service, but it IS. It's a multi-faceted bad service with the phone company story.

I work for a place that is SUPPOSED to be called Varsity Shop. We are an off-shoot of University Bookstore, and that's what our kiosk signs say, "University Bookstore." So we answer the phone "University Bookstore, Weewoo speaking!"

We have tried for the last three years to get our name changed to Varsity Shop. If you look in the little mall directory, we're listed as Varsity Shop. But our BOOTHS still say University Bookstore. When the mall switched booth styles and we got new signs, we asked if ours would say VS instead of UBS. They never got back to us, and when the new ones came.. They said UBS. That's issue number 1. That beef's with Simon Malls and their management's inability to fix a simple thing like a sign without telling us that we will have to pay for new signs ($150!! Dah!)

Number 2 is far more annoying. THE PHONE.

Our phone number... This is fun. I'll make up one with the same first three numbers, because it's mostly important. We'll say it's 877-9009. Please notice that the first three numbers as some toll free numbers.

If you drop the 1 from at least THREE toll free numbers, you get us. The most common number is ADT. People panicking because they're trying to call ADT because they tripped the alarm and they REALLY don't want to pay for a false police call. They range from people hanging up and calling back over and over again, thinking that the automated system is fucked up (and I understand why they make the same mistake over and over- when you panic, you do the same thing OVER AND OVER, and it makes you more panicky.), or they freak out at me because I'm not ADT. Mostly, they listen when I say "dial 1 first, please."

The second number is actually a local number. Heavenly Ham has 877-9090 (well, not really. But following the pattern.). Before Easter and before Thanksgiving, we start getting calls for them. People are annoying when they're ordering their hams and turkeys and they get mad at ME and ask me "ARE YOU SURE?" and crap like that. It turned out that a couple of years ago, to add to badness, HH put out a flier with OUR number on it instead of theirs. And waited for three or four weeks to send out a new one. So we got calls NONSTOP for HH, and we would give them the right number. Hell, we called to them and complained, because their stupid flier caused it so we couldn't freaking run credit cards, we had so many calls. The clerk we talked to apologized, but we never got any sort of apology from the corporate or anything. Angersome.

Anyway, the last and suckiest thing- THE PHONE BOOK.

We sell university hoodies and stuff. Despite the fact that our name has "bookstore" in it, we do not have any books. We had a coffee table book once. And a schedule book. That's it.

We are STILL listed, after four years, in the yellow pages as UBS, under BOOKSTORES. We have tried to get moved to Athletic Apparel for the last four years. Every year they say "yeah, we're totally moving you!" and every October, in comes the phone book, and there's our number, under bookstores. We have talked to SO MANY SUPERVISORS about this, and it's NEVER FIXED. We took out our big pretty ad because of it. We refuse to give them any money whatsoever until they fix it. Bare minimum for us.

Until then, we have to field nonstop calls of "Do you have The Davinci Code?" "Do you have a book by Sylvia Plath?" "Do you have a children's section?" all day long. If we didn't need the line for our credit card machine, I SWEAR we would just take it out. But we need it. Stupid SBC. Stupid Heavenly Ham. Stupid ADT.

That's my story. Grr. There's customers suck AND bad service in it. And it rambled. Sorry about that.

yo paypal, what gives?

I won an item on ebay.
Used paypal to pay $15.99USD + shipping
Wait over a month.
Send notice to buyer that item hasnt arrived.
They tell me the item has arrived (but it has not.)
I file a complaint with paypal's resolution center to recover my money.
After 2 weeks of review, paypal decides in my favor.
The seller issues me a refund of $15.99USD
I email the seller and say thank you/if the item shows up, I'll either send it back or pay for it.
The case is closed by paypal because it has been resolved.
The seller opens an appeal and it is granted.
Paypal is now asking me that I return the refund that they took two weeks to decide I deserved/was owed.

quote from paypal:
"We have reviewed the following claim and have decided in your favor. A
refund has been issued to your account in the amount of -$15.99 USD"

and later that day, Paypal emails me saying:
"Since it is against PayPal Policy to have
both the merchandise and the refund, we ask that you return the refund to the seller."

..eventhough I dont have/never recieved the item. Anyone who knows me knows I'm vigilante about keeping track of things/feedback/and all that goes with ebay.

I emailed paypal customer service under the fraudlent email tab. Because, that was the most applicable. Their email is bullshit. They decided the seller owed me money and the seller gave me a refund.. CASE CLOSED.

They can't take the money from me, can they? Anyone have any thoughts/ideas?

Buffalo Wild Wings

Yesterday afternoon I went to Buffalo Wild Wings with a few friends. We'd been in the car for awhile and I had to go to the bathroom pretty badly so right when we got there I headed for the bathroom first, as did one of my friends. The other friend went to order right away.

[If you're unfamiliar with the place, they're the kind of restaurant that's in between a sit down restaurant and a fast food place. When you first walk in there's a counter with a big menu behind it and you place your order there and then they give you a pager thingy and it goes off when your food is ready and then they drop it off at your table if you hold the pager up or you can go to the counter and get it.]

So she ordered and my guy friend goes and stands at the counter when he got out of the bathroom, waiting to order. I go stand at the counter with him when I got out of the bathroom because I was going to buy his meal as well as mine. Our other friend is standing there with her pager waiting until we order to get seats. An employee is standing there right in front of a register talking on the phone. Ok, maybe she's on some kind of job related important call, so we wait. And wait. And wait. We can see employees in the back kitchen area so I'm sure they can see us. Phone lady just keeps on talking completely ignoring us as if we're not even there even though she's facing us and obviously knows we're there. As it turns out she's definitely on a personally call as she's talking about weekend plans and other gossipy friend type stuff. I would have walked out had my friend not already ordered and paid for her food.

Finally after 10 or so minutes another employee comes over and says "you've ordered right?" I said, "No," while looking directly at the lady who was still talking on the phone. She apologizes and says that she thought we had since the other worker was right there. At first they weren't going to let me order what I wanted because the lunch menu ended at 2pm and now it was 2:01 but another employee pointed out that we'd been standing there a long time and it was well before 2 when we got there. So we order and go sit down, they didn't even give us a pager for our order because there was literally 2 other tables of people and they already had their food.

My friend gets her food like 3 minutes after we sit down and I asked the server about getting a comment card and she told me that the woman, who by the way is STILL on the phone chatting on the job, is her MANAGER! She agreed that we should be annoyed and apologized about it. My friend was done eating basically by the time we got out food, so that sucked as well. My friend also said that last time she'd been there that very same woman [Lisa something] was snippy and rude to her and her boyfriend.

What the hell kind of service is that? Never any type of acknowlegement in 10 minutes? If she dodn't want to take our order she could've called someone else over. At the very least she could've said, "someone will be with you shortly" or SOMETHING. She never even made eye contact. I plan on writing a letter to corporate because that was just crap. I also will never go there again. The foods okay but not worth that.
