Tearing down girls' self-esteem

Crossposted to the Childfree community.

I was in a Joyce Leslie (teen/young women clothing store) today shopping for a younger cousin. I saw a shirt I liked while there, so went to the dressing rooms to try it on. There was a girl about 11-13 trying on a bikini...maybe a bit advanced for her age (triangle tops with ties as straps and to connect the bottoms together), but rather commonplace with girls her age.

Her grandmother loudly proclaimed that it "looked like hell" and "was ridiculous...everyone would laugh at the way (she) looked". A college-aged salesgirl walked by, and the grandmother asked her what she thought of the girl's bathing suit, and if people would laugh at her. The salesgirl gave a really bitchy nod to the girl and was like, "oh yeah, they'll laugh".

This poor little girl looked to the ground sadly and shuffled back to the dressing room to change.

Get ready for a lifetime of body issues!

I hate people. How on earth is it appropriate to make those comments to a young customer? This girl was at LEAST twenty years old. Grow the hell up and get some tact.
IF I CATCH YOU I'M GONNA FUCK YOU

pls 2 b not invading my office kthxbi

I work for a university, I'm a clerk in the power plant part of it. I see a lot of vendors come through my office, and their job is to sell a product to my boss that keeps the boilers running, the plumbing solid, and so on, and they try to get contracts with the university through him. Some are okay, some will even bring us presents (woo hoo to the guy who remembered that I dig cinnamon candy), but most just come in, pitch their products, and wait for my boss to decide whether or not he's going to buy something.

One vendor, though, just always hangs out in the office. He came in, asked for my boss, and I explained that he wasn't in right now, nor did I expect him back any time soon. And... he stood there. Made a comment about how nice it must be to have my air conditioning, walked around a little bit, and kept trying to make small talk. He was here for 15 minutes, and halfway through I just got so annoyed that I started typing this, and then he said, "I'm gonna go out to my car to make a call, he usually comes in through the door down there?" I peeked out the window and he was sitting in his car, staring at my window. I waved and shut the blinds, and then he came back up.

Sorry, I'm just rambling now. I'm trying to look busier than I really am so I don't have to talk to him. I'm still confused as to why he's staking out the office, because if he's trying to impress me (I cannot authorize equipment purchases), he's doing an incredibly bad job of it. He's pushy, annoying, and creeping me the hell out.
masquerade

Vinnies.

I was in Vinnies yesterday in school uniform, walking around with my boyfriend while holding a pair of Doc Martens I was intending to purchase. While looking through a rack of dresses to see if I could find anything nice for my formal [formal outfit fo under $10 oh yeh!], an elderly woman working there slammed into me while pushing past, and loudly said to her also elderly female co-worker --

"Bloody customers! I wish we could just shut them out and let us do our jobs!"

Wtf. It's a volunteer-run, non-profit second-hand shop. Isn't their job to serve me, not sledge me?
