bad_service misadventures

So, about two weeks ago, I ordered two items from - things I really wanted. A few days later, I got a message that the items were backordered, and the message made it appear that the items would not be available until January. Since I didn't want to wait that long, I called the customer service line and cancelled the order.

Two days ago, I got a message that my backordered (supposedly cancelled) order had been shipped.

Now, I do really want these items, and I'm glad that I only have to wait until next week to get them instead of January, but, holy shit - doesn't "cancel this order" mean "don't freaking ship it?" This order wasn't cheap, either, and if I'd assumed that the order had, in fact, been cancelled, and used the card that I'd used for the original order for something else, I'd have been in a world of hurt when they then charged the card.

The thing that's driving me nuts is that I want to complain, but I also don't want them to tell FedEx not to deliver the order - as I've said, I do want the things - so I'm not sure how to go about notifying that it's okay, but that they made a screw-up that could have had serious consequences, and has made me somewhat unhappy with them.
