Readers Digest Hell!

I'm posting this in the form of emails sent back and forth:

To whom it may concern,

This has become very frustrating for me. Since we moved into this house,
July 2006, I have contacted you numerous times to cancel the Reader's
Digests being mailed to "Miss J. Kaur" and "Mr. A Chandola" who do not live
here and have not for coming up to 2 years.

Every reply I have received has seemed to be a generic reply sent to
cancellation emails. Each time I have been informed it may take a few months
to stop receiving them. 1.5 years is NOT a few months.

After receiving another this week, we found that "Mr. A Chandola" has
purchased another 12 month subscription for "Miss J. Kaur" to this address.
I REPEAT: THESE TWO DO NOT LIVE HERE!

Is it possible to put a note of some sort on these people's accounts so that
next time they subscribe they be asked to register their new address with
you? or is it possible for you to contact them in any way (i.e. telephone)
so that this does not escalate and force me to investigate where to report
your company for sending us junk that we have repeated tried to stop?

In short,

"Miss J. Kaur" and "Mr. A Chandola" do NOT live at:

[Address Removed for LJ]

Please remove them from your system.

I got this generic reply that I have recieved no less than 8 times in 1.5 years:

Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for your recent email to Reader’s Digest.

Please be advised that we have removed your name and address, as currently recorded on your account, from our Promotional activities list. As our mailings are prepared up to twelve (12) weeks in advance, it is possible that you could receive a few more mailings from us, after which time it will then cease.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience that this may cause and if you have any further enquires please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for the opportunity to be of assistance. If there is anything further we can do for you do not hesitate to contact us again.

Kind Regards,

So I get frustrated that, once again, they haven't actually read my email.

> Are you trying to irritate me? you have sent me the generic email again!
> all that does is make me believe further that you do not want to help me in
> any way.
>i am requesting a real person reply to my questions please.

Thank you for your recent email to Reader’s Digest.

Please be advised that we have cancelled your Magazine Subscription as per your request. Due to our Magazine labels being prepared in advance you may receive one (1) or two (2) more Magazines before they cease to arrive. If this circumstance does arise the issues may be kept with our compliments and any invoices should be disregarded.

Thank you for the opportunity to be of assistance. If there is anything further we can do for you do not hesitate to contact us again.

Kind Regards,

The Customer Care Team

I was already put through this procedure 1.5 years ago and look where it got
us.
Until i receive a human response i will continue to explore my legal and other options. and please be aware we DON"T WANT any
"complimentary magazines".
I can understand that some may have already been mailed, but this should
have stopped in 2006.

and i keep getting the same replies.

Edit: Just for clarification. It's not only the magazines, it's the tons of other junk letters about competitions etc that we are receiving. Some days it will fill up the letter box and force our mailman to leave other packages at our door.
I do also feel the guilt that someone is paying for a service (no matter how annoying it is to me) and not receiving it. It COULD be as simple as contacting them to update their address but Reader's Digest won't do so. Surely they have a billing address?
And the whole exploring legal options? was (apparently) a poor attempt at a kick in the pants. I wouldn't even know where to start, and as one commenter referred to, I don't actually have time to do so.

I never thought to donate them, i think that i will go to Aus post and see if it can be blocked somehow, otherwise i'll just mail them on to the library.
