I'm a size 18 or so- not thin, but not so big that they should have no dresses that fit me. The first place I went, the shop assistant pulled out dresses in 3X and said "Well, this is the largest size we have, but I think it'll be far too small for you." Grrr. I've tried those dresses on before and knew that the one she was holding actually was a bit loose on me. I got fed up and left.
I decided to wear the same dress I wore for a ball last year, but went to a bridal shop to look for elbow-length gloves. The "lady" behind the counter was so snotty, I couldn't believe it. I asked about black gloves and she told me they didn't carry them in stock. Ifigured they might not, and hardly thought this warranted a put-out expression and exasperated voice, but asked how long it took to get them. She said a week, and I said that's fine, I'd like to order a pair. I was then informed that they were $49 plus shipping, I'd have to pay in advance, there was no way for me to try on any kind of glove in the store, and if they didn't fit, "that's too bad". I asked if there was any kind of exhange programme in case they didn't fit and asked if there were sizes. She told me "one size fits all", I told her I usually have trouble with gloves fitting (I have long fingers) and looked me up and down and then said "well, at least it fits most. I can't alter the width of the gloves!" I wanted to smack her, but I settled for saying "Well, I don't think I'm going to go with these after all" and walking out.
I run into this all the time. I hate people.
