not sure if this really qualifies as "service" but i need help...

Back in June, one of my headlights from my car at the time went out. I got pulled over for it, but the police officer gave me a slip that, if I got my headlight fixed within 24 hours and got it signed, would dismiss me from paying the ticket fee. So the next day I got it fixed, inspected and signed by a state trooper. On the court date assigned on the ticket, I went in and handed the judge my ticket and the slip. He looked it over and told me "we're dismissing it, you're free to go."

Fast forward to two weeks ago. I received a notice from the DMV stating that my license is getting suspended on March 20 because I "failed to show up in court" on the date which I did, indeed, show up for and get dismissed from. So I call the court and they're like "well, since you have no PROOF that you actually went, there's nothing we can do! You can plead guilty or not guilty to see if you can keep your license from getting suspended." WTF? How do they expect me to have proof if the judge took it? Why is it that I'm being punished because the court lost my forms? What would you do in this situation, I really don't know how to go about it...
