Misogyny at Best Buy

My new puppy chewed up my laptop cord, so I went to Best Buy to get a new one. Its important to note for the story that I am a girl.

I had a question about which cord would work with my computer, but it was busy and I couldn't find anyone. There were a couple of male employees behind the computer area registers, so I lined up behind the people they were checking out to wait for help.

I waited about 5 minutes when two guys lined up behind me. The moment the guys lined up one of the two employees came around the counter, walked straight PAST ME and asked the guys behind me how he could help them. Before I could say anything the three of them moved away. I was so steamed I just left. I wish I'd gotten the guys name or told someone at the time, but I was just so flustered and mad that it didn't occur to me until later.

Still need a laptop cord, and I don't want to go back there, but I just bought two laptops there last month and have 2 years left on my warranty... *sigh* ... so I guess I'll have to go back.


Edited to add: Got an email from the Best Buy PR and then a phone call from the General Manager of the Tukwila, WA store where this happened at. He promised to bring it up with his team members not to assume any female is with any particular guy. I'm actually pretty impressed he cared enough to contact me. So maybe things will get better.

But I'm shocked by the sheer number of people who have commented with stories much worse than my own.
